I picked up the L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Mascara at Walmart in hopes of striking gold and finding a drug store mascara that worked wonders on my stick straight Asian lashes. Not only was the package eye-catching, but both ends of the product had a purpose.
Why Both Ends?
One end is a white coat application that is infused with ceramide r and d panthenol. What is it exactly? I have no idea, but it apparently protects and strengthens lashes according to their website. I think my lashes have enough strength though considering they are typical straight Asian lashes. Maybe too much strength since they are so hard to keep curled.
The other end is your typical mascara that you would apply on after your white coat. What I usually do is apply the white coat, let it dry for a few minutes (this is when I’ll pluck any stray eyebrow hair or something). Once it’s dry, I will comb it out with a spoolie. It doesn’t usually get clumpy but I like to make sure my eyelashes aren’t stuck together, especially before I apply the final coat/mascara.
It may be a good idea to comb it out before it dries as well since it will be easier to comb and separate the lashes. I personally do it after to avoid getting gunk on my spoolie.
Basically, the L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Mascara claims it is an all-day wear mascara that will provide up to 80% longer-looking, nourished lashes. They also mention that this mascara will not run, clump, flake, or smudge and that it is easily washable with just warm water.
Does it Live Up to Claims?
In short, I will say yes. Why?
- Yes, it was all-day wear.
- Yes, it gave me visibly longer-looking lashes.
- Yes, it made my eyelashes look healthier and more nourished. ***
- No, it did not run.
- No, it did not flake.
- No, it did not smudge.
As you can already see, it basically lives up to its claims. However, there are few teeny tiny things I personally found that I didn’t like about the product.
The L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Mascara made my eyelashes look healthier and more nourished because it thickened and lengthened my lashes, and even made it look a little shinier than normal, but I don’t know if it actually physically made the strands themselves healthier and more nourished in the long run. I’m okay with this, though. ***
It didn’t clump, necessarily, but I felt as though some of my eyelashes stuck together. It was not clumpy like there were chunks of mascara on there, but it definitely didn’t look natural. Nothing a spoolie can’t fix.
One last thing that I found was that sometimes I was unable to easily apply the mascara over the white that I had applied on my lashes. I would think that I applied the black mascara over all the white parts, only to have my husband inform me he sees white on my eyelashes. I’m not really sure what’s going on, whether it’s the black mascara or the white that is being difficult in the application.
Though it was not part of its claims, it doesn’t hold a curl that well as far as Asian lashes are concerned. I bet it would do a way better job for other lashes though.
I give this product a 4/5 for Asian lashes. Overall, I most definitely noticed more volume and length to my eyelashes. As an Asian female, next to eyebrows, lashes are probably the most lacking for us. The L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Mascara definitely amped up my lashes. If it can do a relatively good job for Asian lashes, I can only imagine the wonders it can do for others.
